Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, #1) Touch the Dark by Karen Chance

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I had been warned about the info dump at the beginning of the book, so was initially surprised when I found myself amused and entertained by the beginning of the book. Then... it went on and on and I found my mind glazing over as I listened to fighting (bloody and gory) and running (frantic) interspersed with long and tedious explanations of all manner of arcane people and history and magical practices and rules. The first half of the book under my belt, I proceeded to part two and as the fighting seemed to get gorier and the time jumps and info dumps more confusing, I found myself getting impatient... complaining in my comments, getting sick as I tried to eat lunch while listening to a description of a vampire draping entrails across his (or was it her?) arm like fancy ribbons, and wondering where all of this was going and where the hell was the plot, anyway?

Then! Then! At long last an interesting discussion of vampires, mages, and other magical creatures and their political maneuverings preceded a steamy sex scene and my interest perked up... lol... a frustrating instance of coitus interruptus ensued but the plot became cohesive and we moved to a brilliant ending.

So here's hoping the next few books bear out the promise of other KC fans and I am as entertained as others have been as I continue in my exploration of fantasy and legend.

I 'm reading and loving it

Lots and lots of new books to read on Goodreads. Found others who like the same books as me. Love, love, love it. Found lots of Urban Fantasy series and Fantasy Mystery. Loving it. Like eating box after box of chocolates. Some are grocery store candy, some Godiva. All are pretty good, some are divine.

Found this in my photos and it still cracks me up.
